Lucca is well served by rail. Regular trains run from Florence (journey time 80–90 minutes) and Pisa (30 minutes) — the Pisa connection means you can fly into Pisa airport and be in Lucca within an hour. The station is just outside the southern wall, a five-minute walk through the Porta San Pietro from the city centre. By car, Lucca is on the A11 autostrada, about 25 km east of Pisa and 75 km west of Florence. Parking outside the walls is straightforward; driving inside is restricted and the medieval streets are extremely narrow.
