Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Mansi

Palazzo Mansi is one of Lucca's two national museums, housed in an exceptionally well-preserved 17th-century aristocratic palace on Via Galli Tassi. The palace itself is the main attraction: the state apartments have survived intact with their original Baroque decoration — frescoed ceilings, tapestried walls, gilded furniture, and a spectacular bridal alcove draped in 17th-century fabric that is one of the most remarkable domestic interiors in Tuscany.

The picture collection includes works by Pontormo, Tintoretto, and Veronese, along with Flemish and Dutch works, and a good selection of 16th–18th century Lucchese and Tuscan painting. The museum is rarely crowded and makes a good alternative to the more visited art museums of Florence, particularly for the palace interiors.
