Elba is reached by ferry from Piombino on the Tuscan mainland. Toremar and Moby Lines run regular services; the crossing takes about an hour. The main ferry port is Portoferraio, about 20 kilometres east of Marciana Marina by road. From Portoferraio, buses run along the north coast road to Marciana Marina, or you can rent a car or scooter in Portoferraio for the drive. In summer the ferries fill up quickly on Friday evenings and Sundays — book ahead.
