The setting is the main attraction — the causeways across the lagoon, the Spanish walls of the old town, and the WWF nature reserve at the lagoon's edge. A morning spent walking the lungomare and visiting the cathedral, an afternoon on Monte Argentario or one of the tomboli beaches, and an evening at a fish restaurant covers the essentials. Birdwatchers and divers can easily stretch this into several days.
