Religious souvenirs dominate near the Basilica di San Francesco and can be cheerfully tacky. For better buys, walk east along the Corso Mazzini and Via San Rufino, where small workshops sell hand-embroidered linens (Punto Assisi, a traditional cross-stitch style local to the town), wooden carvings, ceramics from Deruta, and pressed Umbrian olive oil and truffle products. A Wednesday morning market on Piazza Matteotti carries fruit, cheese, salami, and household goods.
