Perugia is pleasant to visit most of the year. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer the best weather — warm enough to enjoy the terraces and hilltop views, cool enough to walk comfortably. Summer is hot and can be crowded, though less overwhelmingly so than Rome or Florence.
July brings Umbria Jazz, one of Europe's most respected jazz festivals, which takes over the city's piazzas and historic venues for ten days. Major names play outdoor stages on Piazza IV Novembre and in the smaller theatres; the city gets busy and accommodation prices rise sharply. October brings Eurochocolate, a dedicated chocolate festival with producers and events across the centre.
Winter is quiet, often cold, and occasionally foggy — but Perugia in low season has an authentic working-city quality that the busiest months can obscure.
