The castle at Bevilacqua has been famous since 1336, when the Bevilacqua family built it as a fortified residence on the plain. Unlike many of the region's fortifications, it has survived in unusually good condition: the square keep, corner towers, and moat are largely intact, and parts of the interior can still be visited. The surrounding village is tiny — more a hamlet than a town — which makes the castle's bulk all the more striking when it comes into view across the flat fields.
