Lovat is the best of the traditional pasticcerie on and around the Corso Italia — a proper Italian pastry shop and cafe that has been feeding Cortina's visitors since the early twentieth century. In the morning it fills with locals taking espresso at the bar; by midday the terrace tables have a mix of skiers and day-trippers; in the afternoon the focus shifts to hot chocolate and strudel. The pastry case holds regional specialties including apple strudel, Sacher torte, and various dumplings-turned-sweet. Standing at the bar is cheaper and quicker than sitting; the aperitivo hour from 6pm onward is particularly pleasant, with Spritz and small cicchetti.
