Cortina d'Ampezzo has no railway — the historic Dolomites Railway that once connected it to Calalzo closed in 1964, and the tracks were never replaced. Getting here requires either a car or a bus.
By car is the most practical option for most visitors. From Venice (160 km), take the A27 motorway north to Belluno, then the SS51 through the Cadore valley. In good conditions the drive takes around two hours. From Innsbruck (160 km) via the Brenner motorway and then south through the Pusteria valley, the drive is similar. In winter, snow chains are mandatory on the mountain passes, and some roads may be closed.
By bus from Venice and Belluno: Dolomitibus operates regular services connecting Cortina to Belluno and Venice (Mestre station). Journey time from Venice is around three hours. From Innsbruck, a seasonal bus service via the Brenner Pass connects to Cortina in summer. Flixbus also connects Cortina to major cities including Venice and Munich.
Nearest airports: Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is the main gateway, around two hours by car or bus. Innsbruck Airport (INN) is a slightly shorter drive but with fewer flight connections. Treviso airport (TSF) is 30 minutes closer to Belluno but served mainly by Ryanair.
Taxi and transfers: Private transfers from Venice airport run to around €200–250. Shared shuttle services are cheaper and can be booked in advance.
