Central Padua is small and almost entirely walkable. From the railway station to Sant'Antonio at the southern edge of the historic centre is around 25 minutes on foot; from Piazza dei Signori to the Prato della Valle is 15 minutes.
A single tram line crosses the city north–south, passing the station, the cathedral, the Prato della Valle, and continuing into the southern suburbs. Buses cover the wider city and the suburbs. Tickets are sold at tobacconists and station kiosks; validate on board.
Bicycles are popular and the streets are flat — bike hire is available at the station and at several outlets in the centre. Padua's medieval streets are mostly pedestrianised; cars need a permit to enter the ZTL zone.
