Tabhane

The Tabhane is a historic building near the Long Bazaar that once served as a tannery — the name comes from the Turkish word for this trade. The building dates from the Ottoman period and is one of the few surviving examples of a trading or craft complex in Gjakova. It has been designated a cultural heritage monument.

The structure is compact and well-proportioned, with a stone facade that weathered the 1999 war better than most of its neighbours. It now serves as a cultural venue and is occasionally used for exhibitions and events. Even if nothing is on, the exterior is worth a look as you walk through the old town.
