City Centre Restaurants

A handful of restaurants in the centre serve Eastern European staples: pelmeni (Russian dumplings), borsch, pork chops with buckwheat, herring under a fur coat. The Russian-speaking culture of Daugavpils means menus are often written in Russian, but staff are generally friendly and used to pointing visitors towards what's good. Prices are low by any standard — a full meal with drinks rarely comes to much. Look around Rīgas iela and the main square for the best concentration of options.
