Eating Out

Dining options in Daugavpils are modest but functional. The city's predominantly Russian-speaking culture shapes the food: expect Eastern European staples — pelmeni, borsch, pork with buckwheat, herring salads — rather than the more Latvian-inflected cooking you'd find in Riga. A handful of decent restaurants are clustered in the city centre, and there's a café inside the Rothko Art Centre complex for a lighter stop. Menus are often in Russian, but staff are generally helpful to visitors.
