Joy of All Who Sorrow Church

The Joy of All Who Sorrow Church is an Eastern Orthodox church in central Druskininkai, belonging to the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Lithuania. The building, with its characteristic onion domes and blue-and-white exterior, stands as a reminder of the significant Russian presence in Druskininkai during the 19th century, when the town was developing as a spa resort for the Russian imperial elite and for the Baltic Russians who followed.

The church is a working religious site rather than a tourist attraction, but it is architecturally striking and adds an unexpected dimension to a town that otherwise reads as thoroughly Lithuanian. It is also in good condition — the Orthodox community here maintained the church through the Soviet period when many religious buildings were converted or left to decay. The surrounding streets retain some of the residential character of old Druskininkai, with wooden villas and garden plots.
