Panevėžys sits on the Via Baltica (A2 highway), about 130km north of Vilnius and 200km south of Riga, making it a natural stop on the main Baltic corridor. Kaunas is roughly 120km to the west.
Bus connections are regular and reliable. Journey times are approximately 1.5 hours to Vilnius and 2.5 hours to Riga, with several departures daily in both directions. Buses are the practical choice for travellers without a car; the terminal is centrally located.
There is no active passenger rail service on this route at present. A car is convenient for reaching the Upytė museum and surrounding villages, but the city centre itself is easy enough to reach and navigate by bus.
