Sliema's shoreline is mostly flat rock rather than sand — typical of northeast Malta. There are ladders and steps into the water at regular intervals, and the swimming is excellent in the clear Mediterranean water. The rocky shelf at the tip of Tigné Point is a popular spot.
For sand, the small beach near the foot of the peninsula is used mainly by locals. Alternatively, head to St George's Bay in St Julian's, a short walk or bus ride away.
