Malta International Airport is about 6 kilometres south of Valletta, connected by direct bus (route X4 or the older route 13) that takes around 25 minutes and costs very little. Taxis and ride-hailing services are also available from the airport.
From elsewhere in Malta, Valletta is the hub of the island's bus network. All major routes converge at the Valletta Bus Terminus just outside City Gate, meaning almost any town on the island connects directly. Journey times from most parts of Malta are under an hour.
There is no direct passenger ferry service to Valletta from mainland Europe, though cruise ships dock regularly at the Grand Harbour cruise terminal, from which Valletta is a short taxi ride. Catamaran services from Catania in Sicily operated historically and may be available seasonally — check current schedules locally.
