The road and footpath that runs along the Dniester bank between the fortress and the town centre offers one of Soroca's most pleasant interludes. The river is wide and slow here, the opposite bank technically Ukrainian territory, and on a quiet morning the scene is almost impossibly tranquil — fishermen, willows, the fortress reflected in the water. A small beach area south of the fortress is used by locals in summer. The walk takes no more than 20 minutes end to end, but there is no reason to rush it.
