When to Go

Cetinje sits at 670 metres and has a highland Mediterranean climate — milder than the Montenegrin interior but cooler than the coast, with more rain and occasional snow in winter.

Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the best times to visit — comfortable temperatures, fewer tourists than summer, and the Lovćen landscape at its most dramatic. The light in autumn is particularly good.

Summer (June–August) is warm and dry, with comfortable temperatures around 25°C. The coast below is packed in July and August, but Cetinje itself never becomes crowded — most coastal tourists make it a half-day excursion rather than a base. The mausoleum road to Lovćen is clear and the views at their clearest.

Winter (November–March) brings cold, occasional snow, and short days. Some museums reduce hours. The atmosphere of the empty town with snow on the mountains has a melancholy charm, but check opening hours carefully before visiting.
