Almelo–Nordhorn Canal

The Almelo–Nordhorn Canal was built in the early 20th century to connect Almelo to the German textile town of Nordhorn. Today the towpath makes a superb cycling and walking route — flat, well-maintained, and running through open agricultural landscape all the way to the German border. Combined with the Almelo Canal to the west, it forms part of a wider network of waterway routes through Twente.
