Eating Out

Eating in Bloemendaal divides cleanly along the same lines as the rest of the municipality. The beach pavilions at Bloemendaal aan Zee serve summer-only seafood, salads, and burgers — fine for what they are, expensive for what they are, and best chosen for atmosphere rather than precision cooking. The villages along the railway line have a small clutch of bistros and Italian-leaning restaurants; the locals eat seriously, and prices reflect it.

For something traditionally Dutch, Kraantje Lek at the foot of the dunes is the obvious stop — uitsmijters, tosti, pancakes, beer. For dinner with more ambition, the better restaurants are over the railway line in Haarlem, a fifteen-minute bus ride away.
