Haarlem is the obvious next stop — five minutes by train, a beautifully preserved Dutch town with the Grote Kerk, the Frans Hals Museum, and an excellent restaurant scene. Zandvoort, the next station along the line, is the other big beach destination on this coast, with the F1 circuit on its northern edge.
IJmuiden to the north has the busy ferry harbour and a long pier worth a walk; the Tata Steel works behind it are an unexpected industrial backdrop. Amsterdam is twenty minutes by direct train and needs no introduction.
