De Haven (The Harbour) is the waterfront district south of the city centre, where the old canal basin has been converted into Breda's liveliest bar and restaurant strip. In summer the terraces fill up from late afternoon and stay busy well into the night, with a mix of students and locals choosing from a dense row of bars and cafes along the waterside.
The atmosphere is relaxed rather than rowdy. De Haven is where you come for a long evening of drinks with a view of the water, not for nightclubs. Several of the bars have good craft beer selections, and a few double as restaurants in the early evening. The walk from the Grote Markt takes about 10 minutes.
