Ginnekenmarkt

Ginneken is the old village that Breda has absorbed as a southern suburb, but the centre around the Ginnekenmarkt still feels distinct from the city. The triangular market square is lined with independent cafes, restaurants, and specialist food shops that serve a local clientele rather than passing tourists.

The Ginnekenmarkt is a pleasant contrast to the busier Grote Markt — quieter, more residential, with a farmers' market on Fridays. Several good restaurants occupy the buildings around the square. It is a 20-minute walk from the city centre through ordinary neighbourhoods, or a short bike ride through the Mastbosdreef.
