Valkenbergpark

Valkenbergpark is Breda's oldest and most central public park, tucked between the castle and the city centre. It was laid out in English landscape style in the 19th century and remains one of the more pleasant corners of the old town: willow trees trailing into a pond, a bandstand, and a scattering of benches where people come to eat lunch and ignore their phones.

The park is small enough to walk through in ten minutes but big enough to lose an hour in if you are happy sitting still. In summer it hosts outdoor concerts and occasional markets. The view across the pond toward the castle walls gives a good sense of how compact and intact the historic centre actually is.
