The Netherlands' largest national park — 5,500 hectares of Scots pine forest, heather, drift sand and small lakes on the high ground of the Veluwe. It is the remnant of the former private estate of Anton and Helene Kröller-Müller, who bought the land as a hunting reserve and handed it to the state in 1935. Red deer, wild boar, roe deer and mouflon roam freely; early-morning or dusk visits in autumn give the best chance of seeing them. The simplest way to explore the park is on one of the 1,800 free "white bicycles" left at the entrances — take one and return it at any of the racks around the park. Inside the park you will also find the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Sint Hubertus hunting lodge and the Museonder.
