Day Trips

The Veluwe puts Ede at the centre of one of the Netherlands' richest day-trip areas. Arnhem, ten minutes by train, is the nearest city and has the Airborne Museum Hartenstein — the definitive account of Operation Market Garden — as well as the Open Air Museum and a lively restaurant scene. Nijmegen, just south of Arnhem, is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and holds the Canadian War Cemetery Groesbeek nearby; it also hosts the famous Four Days Marches each July. Apeldoorn to the north is the base for visiting Paleis Het Loo, the former hunting palace of the Dutch royal family, and the northern half of the Veluwe.
