Eindhoven has a mild maritime climate. Summer (June to August) is the most pleasant time to visit, with average highs around 22 degrees and long evenings on the terraces. Spring is good for cycling.
The city's biggest draw is Dutch Design Week in late October, when studios, factories, and pop-up venues across town open their doors to exhibit experimental design. It pulls over 350,000 visitors. GLOW, a light art festival in November, transforms the city centre into an open-air exhibition of illuminated installations, fitting for a city built on light bulbs.
Carnival in February is a big deal in Noord-Brabant. Eindhoven (known during carnival as Lampegat, "Lamp Hole") fills with costumed parades and street parties. The Eindhoven Marathon in autumn is one of the largest in the Netherlands. In summer, Fiesta del Sol brings three days of free open-air music and theatre to the centre.
