Harlingen Lighthouse Hotel

A small white-and-red lighthouse on the harbour mole, built in 1922 to mark the entrance to Harlingen's outer port. After decommissioning at the end of the 20th century it was converted to a single-room luxury hotel — the entire lighthouse rented as one suite, with the old lamp room as the bedroom on the top floor. Even if you are not staying, the lighthouse at the end of its breakwater is one of the iconic images of Harlingen and a five-minute walk from the centre.

A story
The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1998 and converted into a single-room hotel two years later. The lamp room at the top — once the working light — is now the bedroom, with full 360-degree views of the harbour, the town, and the Wadden Sea. There is exactly one room. Bookings open a year ahead and fill almost immediately.
