The compact old centre is the attraction: a working harbour, three connected inner ports lined with restored warehouses and historic ships, a small but rich local museum, and one of the great photo-opportunity hotels in the Netherlands (a converted port crane). The Wadden Sea on the doorstep is a UNESCO World Heritage site and runs the schedule of the town — most visitors are passing through to the islands.
