Ameland Ferry

The ferry to Ameland departs from the terminal at the edge of the village and takes about 45 minutes to reach the island. Wagenborg runs the service several times daily, with more crossings in summer. The ride across the Wadden Sea is pleasant in itself — flat water, big sky, and occasionally seals on sandbanks — but most people use it as the start of a day trip or longer stay on the island.

Book ahead in summer, especially for a car crossing. Foot passengers can usually just turn up, but queues build on summer weekends and Dutch school holidays.
