The city's main bathing beach, running west from the harbour entrance for a kilometre and a half along the foot of the boulevard. Wide enough to find a quiet patch even in high summer, with the boulevard's cafes and ice-cream stands two minutes' walk above.
Lifeguards patrol in summer; the marked swimming areas are well away from the shipping channel. The sand is light, the slope into the sea is gradual, and the views across the Western Scheldt are the chief feature. Showers and changing rooms are at the eastern end.
