Watertoren

Zandvoort's red-brick water tower stands on the Vondellaan a few blocks back from the boulevard and is the most visible thing in town from any direction — a 43-metre column built in 1929 to provide pressure for the rapidly expanding seaside resort. The architect, Cornelis Visser, gave it a sober, almost industrial silhouette that has aged well.

The tower no longer holds water and now functions as private apartments. There is no public access to the upper floors, but the structure is worth a quick look as you walk between the station and the beach, and it is the easiest landmark to navigate by if you get lost in the small grid of streets in the old centre.
