Gallery F15

Gallery F15, housed in the old Alby estate on the Jeløya peninsula, is the main contemporary art institution in the Moss region. The gallery occupies a handsome nineteenth-century farm complex overlooking the Oslofjord, with a changing programme of exhibitions that draws artists from across Norway and internationally.

The grounds are lovely for a walk regardless of what is on — the estate sits on a slight rise with views down to the water, and the mix of old farm buildings, gardens, and modern art installations makes for an unusual afternoon. The café on site is a pleasant place to stop. Getting here without a car means a twenty-minute walk or bus ride from Moss centre across the bridge to Jeløya.

A story
The estate of Alby was originally a working farm, one of the oldest on Jeløya. The manor house dates from the eighteenth century and has hosted everyone from Norwegian nobles to contemporary artists-in-residence. Gallery F15 now occupies the outbuildings, while the main house serves as artist accommodation — meaning that on any given day someone is actually living and working on the estate.
