Jeløya is the elongated island-peninsula jutting into the Oslofjord just west of Moss, connected to the town by a bridge. For a heavily industrialised area, it is surprisingly green — farmland and forest cover most of the interior, and the shoreline has sheltered coves that are popular with swimmers in summer. The coastal road offers good views across the fjord to Vestfold.
Gallery F15 at Alby is the main cultural draw, but Jeløya is equally worth visiting just for the air and the quiet. The island has a number of walking paths, and the old station at Jeløy Radio adds an industrial curiosity to the landscape. If you are visiting Moss in summer, a half-day on Jeløya makes an excellent complement to the town itself.
