Vansjø

Vansjø is a large freshwater lake east of Moss, the biggest lake in Østfold county. The lake and the connected waterway system known as Morsavassdraget is popular for fishing, kayaking, and summer swimming — the shores are dotted with cabins and small boat jetties. In warm weather the local population migrates here for the kind of quiet lakeside leisure that Norwegians do particularly well.

The lake is easily reached from Moss by car or bicycle. There are several access points along the eastern shore, and a few simple cafés near the most popular swimming spots. It makes a good afternoon excursion if the weather is cooperative.
