Hålogaland Bridge

A 1,533-metre suspension bridge across the Rombaksfjord, one of the longest in the world above the Arctic Circle

Opened in 2018, the Hålogalandsbrua carries the E6 across the Rombaksfjord just east of Narvik, replacing a long detour around the head of the fjord. Its main span of 1,145 metres makes it among the longest suspension bridges in the world, and certainly the longest at this latitude. The slim white twin towers and the pale cable curve are an unexpectedly elegant addition to a landscape of dark fjord water and steep slate slopes.

There is a lay-by on the south side, just before the bridge, with a viewpoint that takes in the full span and the fjord stretching east. Cyclists and pedestrians can cross on a dedicated lane on the eastern side.
