Eggen sits at 708 metres on top of Nesaksla, at the upper station of the Romsdalen Gondola. The room is essentially a glass box pointed at the Romsdalen valley, the Trollveggen, and the fjord — a setting that the kitchen would have to work hard to live down to. The food is straightforward Norwegian — reindeer, fish, root vegetables — but the view is what you come for.
Book ahead in summer, especially for sunset. The gondola is included in the seasonal "Eggen experience" packages and runs late on evenings when the restaurant is full. Cocktails on the deck before dinner is the move if the weather cooperates.
