Getting Around

Åndalsnes itself is small enough to walk, but you will need wheels to reach the main attractions. Local buses run to Molde and Ålesund, and in summer the Golden Route bus to Geiranger operates — one of Norway's great scenic journeys, crossing the Trollstigen Pass and descending the Eagles' Highway to the fjord. The route only runs for a few months in summer, and even in June there can be snow at the top. A car gives the most flexibility for exploring the valley and mountain roads at your own pace.
