Brygga Restaurant

Brygga — the Norwegian word for quay — is Tvedestrand's main waterfront restaurant, occupying a converted boathouse right on the harbour. The menu centres on what comes off the local boats: shrimp, crab and white fish prepared without excessive complication, the kind of cooking that lets the quality of the ingredients carry the dish. In summer, the outdoor terrace directly over the water is the place to sit, ideally with a cold Ringnes and a plate of freshly boiled shrimp.

The interior is warm and unpretentious — timber walls, nautical paraphernalia, candles in the evening — and the service has the easy friendliness of a place that sees the same faces every summer. Book ahead for weekend evenings in July, when the guest marina fills and the restaurant can get genuinely busy.
