Tvedestrand's pleasures are almost entirely outdoors and water-facing. The harbour is the natural hub — from there you can board a kayak, hop a boat to the outer skerries, or simply watch the summer sailing traffic drift in and out. Inland, the oak forests that roll back from the coast are among the furthest north in Europe and offer walking that rewards those who venture beyond the waterfront.
