Harbour Cafe

A daytime staple on the Tvedestrand waterfront, the Harbour Cafe is the kind of small, reliable place that coastal towns in Norway do well: strong coffee, open sandwiches loaded with smoked salmon or prawns, and a window seat with a direct view of the marina. It opens early enough for breakfast and serves through the afternoon, making it useful both as a morning refuelling stop before a kayak trip and as a lazy lunch destination.

The menu is short and seasonal. In summer there is usually fresh crayfish when available, and the fish soup — a thick, cream-based chowder — appears on cooler days. Prices are reasonable by Norwegian standards, and the atmosphere is cheerful and unhurried.
