Tvedestrand Harbour

The harbour is the heartbeat of Tvedestrand, a compact waterfront where the white-painted wooden town descends steeply to meet the water. In summer the guest marina fills with sailing boats from across the Skagerrak, and the quayside comes alive with the easy energy of people who have arrived by sea and are in no particular hurry to leave. The walkway along the water's edge is the place to spend a summer evening — the light here in July barely darkens before midnight, and the cafes set out chairs until late.

The harbour itself is well set up for visiting boats, with good facilities and easy access to town from the jetty. Even if you're not arriving by water, the marina area is worth an hour of wandering: watch the boats come in, pick up fresh shrimp from a quayside seller, and get a sense of a town that has been shaped by the sea for two centuries.
