Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park

An open-air ethnographic museum on the northern edge of Silesian Park, gathering more than seventy traditional Silesian wooden buildings on a single site: farmhouses, barns, a windmill, a smithy, a school, beehives, and a complete wooden church. Most were dismantled in villages around the region and rebuilt here to escape the bulldozers of Communist-era modernisation.

The setting is genuinely pastoral, with grass paths between the farmsteads and animals in the pens. Most buildings can be entered, and many are furnished as they would have been in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is a quieter, more thoughtful counterpoint to the noise of the rest of the park.

A story
The wooden church of St Joseph, moved here from Nieboczowy in the 1970s, is over 300 years old and still consecrated — couples sometimes marry inside it.
