Chorzów is best known for the Silesian Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe. Spread over 600 hectares between Chorzów and Katowice, it includes a zoo, a planetarium, an amusement park, an open-air ethnographic museum, and enough green space to forget you are in the middle of Poland's most densely built-up region.
The city itself is industrial Silesia through and through — red brick, smoke stacks, and a complicated history of German and Polish identity. The Stadion Śląski, Poland's largest stadium, sits inside the park and has hosted football internationals since the 1950s. Chorzów works best as a day trip from nearby Katowice rather than a destination in its own right.
