Dar Pomorza

1909 full-rigged training ship — Poland's most famous tall ship, now a museum

Address Aleja Jana Pawła II

Dar Pomorza is the elegant white three-masted full-rigger moored alongside Błyskawica at the end of the Southern Pier — a 1909 sailing training ship that served the Polish merchant marine school until 1982 and is now the country's most-visited museum ship.

Below decks the visit covers the cadet quarters, the captain's cabin, the rigging house, and a small exhibition on Polish maritime training. The deck itself is the more striking part — the standing rigging is original, the brass on the binnacle is polished, and the views from the bow back along the pier are the best photo of central Gdynia. Open year-round; reduced hours in winter.

A story
Bought in 1929 from German owners using public donations from the people of Pomerania ("Dar Pomorza" — Gift of Pomerania), she trained Polish naval and merchant officers for fifty-three years. In 1976 she became the first non-British ship to win the Cutty Sark Trophy in the Tall Ships' Race.
