Southern Pier (Molo Południowe)

Long concrete pier — heart of the waterfront, with the museum ships at the far end

The Southern Pier is the main public space of Gdynia — a broad concrete promenade running 700 metres out into the bay from Skwer Kościuszki, lined with food stalls and benches and ending at the two museum ships. It is where everyone in Gdynia walks on a summer evening; on weekends, half the population seems to be out here at sunset.

The view back to land takes in the modernist Sea Towers, the post-war buildings of the city centre, and the green of Kamienna Góra rising behind. Halfway out, the pier widens at the Skwer Plymouth, named for Gdynia's British twin town and the city Błyskawica defended in 1942. Free; floodlit at night.
