Eating Out

Toruń has a solid restaurant scene for a city of its size, concentrated around the old town market square and the streets leading off it. Polish cuisine dominates: hearty soups, meat dishes, and the obligatory pierogi. Gingerbread in its various forms appears on most menus and in every bakery window — the savoury variety, used as a bread alongside soups, is worth trying alongside the sweet versions.

For a proper sit-down meal, look around the side streets off Rynek Staromiejski (the main square) — prices drop noticeably one or two blocks away from the square's main restaurants. The local craft beer scene has grown in recent years, and several bars and restaurants now stock Kuyavian and Pomeranian regional beers alongside international options. Jan's Pierogarnia on Mostowa is a reliable choice for pierogi in a vaulted medieval cellar.
