Bar Mleczny Prasowy on Marszałkowska Street is the most popular milk bar in Warsaw and possibly in Poland. These state-subsidised canteens from the communist era serve simple Polish food at prices that seem impossibly low: a full hot meal with soup, main course, and kompot (stewed fruit drink) rarely exceeds five euros. The food is basic — boiled vegetables, fried pork cutlets, potato dumplings — but made fresh daily.
Prasowy gets crowded at lunch; join the queue, take a tray, point at what you want, pay at the till, and find a seat. There is nothing touristy about it — it is where Warsaw office workers, students, and pensioners eat lunch. More interesting than any tourist restaurant, and better value by an order of magnitude.
