Eating Out

Faro eats better than its transit-hub reputation suggests. Grilled fish is the thing to order — fresh from the Atlantic and the lagoon. Fim do Mundo on Rua Vasco de Gama is a family restaurant known for pork ribs and grilled chicken at honest prices (around €25 for two with wine). Costa Algarvia does the full Portuguese spread — chorizo, cured ham, fresh bread, grilled meats — in a multigenerational family atmosphere. For something quieter, the small Flor da Ameixa near Estoi is a classic local tasca with the catch of the day cooked on an indoor grill by the owner. Prices in Faro are noticeably cheaper than in the resort towns further west along the coast.
